Sunbeam conditions: Strong on the south porch this afternoon. Barn shade fills in after two.

The Wurst Pun Run in Hudson Valley History

Our annual fun run is 5K in name only. Most participants stop for photos, sniff every stump, and debate whether “wurst” is spelled correctly.

The Wurst Pun Run began as a typo on a flyer. We meant “Worst Pun Run” and accidentally immortalized the sausage spelling. Attendees showed up in hot dog costumes anyway, so we leaned in.

Course marshals are instructed to award style points for bun puns, leash puns, and any joke involving “links.” The record holder shouted “I’m on a roll!” at every kilometer marker until we asked her to spare the volunteers.

Wiener dogs set the pace. Humans pretend they are jogging; everyone knows we are all just walking very fast toward the snack tent. Proceeds go toward fence repairs and a jar of pickles that claims it is “kosher but chaotic.”
